Heritage Walk being conducted for students of Architecture

Since it's inception in 1986, INTACH Pune has been involved in several conservation programs as well as a number of well-defined projects.
Some of the works, the Chapter has been involved with, include :

a) Saving the Poona Gate Police Chowkey at the University and Law College Hills from a proposed road.

b) Increasing awareness about conservation of cultural heritage and methods of garbage collection and disposal in residential areas through interaction with authorities, media, students, clubs and individuals.

c) Listing of the grade I, II & III buildings of Pune City followed by constant follow-ups on the Urban Heritage Committee.

d) Conceiving and Supporting the project of 'Revitalizing the environs of Shaniwar Wada'.

e) Identification & preparation of base papers and proposals for the Heritage Map of Pune and Gokhale Museum.

f) Initiation of action on the Model Colony Lake after long years of persuasion.

g) Hosting lectures, workshops, and seminars on subjects related to art, environment and culture.

Activities of INTACH during year 2009:
1. Listing for 23 villages and updating of listing of old PMC area commissioned by PMC.
2. Opening of the second outlet of Waarsa: The Heritage Shop at
Ishanya at the hands of Ms Mrinal Kulkarni and Ms Lila Poonawalla.
Prominent citizens express their solidarity with INTACH's cause by
walking the ramp sporting apparel and accessories made from the
traditional 'Khan' fabric.

3.INTACH's website made open for the citizens of Pune to upload
their anecdotes about the city and their family history.

10. Participation in the seminar ' Designing a Curriculum for Heritage Management' held by
Dr. B.N College of Architecture at the University of Pune
11. Support to Sandesh Bhandare's photo exhibition on Tamasha
12. Support to 'Discover Pune', a two-wheeler exploratory race of
the city's heritage sites organized by Rotract Club of Shaniwarwada
13. Production of Punyacha Waarsa, a two CD audio program for school kids
14. Preparation of the radio program and its broadcast on AIR for
municipal schools- supported by Lady Hamlyn Trust, UK
15. Launch of the CD at Shaniwarwada at the hands of cartoonists Charuhaas Pandit and Ajit Wadekar
16. Documentation of Street facades of core city areas

27. Meeting with stakeholders and concerned citizens of Wai to initiate the cleaning and
conservation work of the river ghats in Wai
28. Setting up of a heritage committee at the PCB
29. Proposal for the conservation of the Arsenal tower
30. Initiation of the conservation project for the Shivaji Market
31. Publication of the Pune city Heritage map
32. Support to identification of Bhide wada as a heritage structure associated with Savitribai Phule
33. Support to the citizens' movement to stop converting part of Empress Garden into commercial/ residential area.
34. Support to the citizens' movement to oppose the increase in FAR in the Pune Cantonment Board area
35. Preparation and submission of proposals to be considered under
JNNURM for the core city of Pune to CRISIL and PMC
36. Numerous heritage walks held in the core city and cantonment areas
37. Numerous lectures and audio-visual presentations about Pune's heritage at various fora.
38. Participation in various exhibitions to promote Pune's heritage and heritage products
39. INTACH Pune Regional Chapter receives the IIA Award.
